Going home from work in Ginza

  • Karōshi is commonly translated as “death by overwork.” In the West, it has become a shorthand for how work culture in Japan is often imagined.

    Long working hours, loyalty to the company, and social obligations extending beyond the office shape daily routines for many employees. By the time people return home – often to small apartments – little energy remains for anything else.
