Background

LAMEBA (My Barcelona) is the newest volume in the City Reader series covering nine major metropolises around the world, which is published by edition esefeld & traub (Stuttgart).

After visiting Barcelona several times and considering it as a potential place to live, I was asked to join this project by esefeld & traub to photograph the city through my own perspective – a request I embraced with great enthusiasm.
Over a period of a month I stayed in Barcelona together with another photographer to capture the city. In the end, the book brings together historical and contemporary images of Barcelona across three distinct periods – 1958, 1975, and 2023 – offering a layered visual narrative of the city’s transformation over time. Complementing the images are personal texts by various authors – long-time residents and recurring visitors – who reflect on “their Barcelona” in individual ways.

While photographing for LAMEBA, I was also working on another purely urban exploration project, which I later self-published as BESI, TRES XEMENEIES, BARCELONA in a limited edition of 50 copies. Read more on it here.

Since I quickly run out of copies I re produced a zine-version of the first chapter of the limited Besi book, which you can find here and which is part of the order above, as well.
